This Coalport teapot features an “Old Oval” shape and was manufactured in the early 19th century, circa 1805.
It is adorned with an all-around band of shields and spears painted in peach and gilt, both on the body and the top.
The neoclassical geometric design is characterized by strong graphics that make the details stand out, such as diamond shapes and lavish gilding.
The shape of the body and handle matches Ill. 389 on page 236 of “British Teapots & Tea Drinking” by Robin Emmerson, and the holes of the interior tea strainer at the base of the spout conform to the diamond shape noted on page 238.
Condition: The porcelain is in excellent condition; the decoration shows light rubbing to the gilt
Dimensions: 5.75″ tall x 10″ long x 4.5″ wide
Price: $380
