This elegant console was built in Rome, in Italy, in the neoclassical era at the end of the eighteenth century.
Demi-lune shaped, it has a top composed of a slab in Sicilian jasper marble on a white marble base that in its height is covered with gold leaf.
The wooden structure has a gilding leaf that to create movement and shine has the details in relief polished with agate stone, while the backgrounds are cushioned with a burin treatment. The wood is finely carved with motifs characteristic of neoclassicism. The band below the floor has an egg frame at the top, a band decorated with phytomorphic motifs with turns and leaves and a frame with a small dot at the bottom. In correspondence of the four legs are carved some elements in the shape of a mask.
The truncated legs of inverted cone, grooved and carved with flowers and leaves, originate with an important circular capital decorated with acanthus leaves, palmette motifs and convex grooves. Even the tips with which the legs end have very refined and complex sculptures with geometric and floral elements and acanthus leaves.
In the important Italian palaces between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the consoles were among the most sought-after furnishings, emblem of the wealth of the client, to show off in the large halls of representation. This type of highly decorative furniture is still today of great scenic effect and contributes to the majesty of every room that hosts it.
The warm color given by the gilding and the top in jasper, and the sophistication of the carvings makes this furniture bright, graceful and very decorative, easy to fit into contexts of antique furniture but also modern.
There are some fractures in the jasper paving at the back. The photographs were taken before the conservative restoration of the golden wooden part.
