Charming porcelain statuette portraying a couple about to dance manufactured by Volckstedt, established in Thuringia in 1762 by princely decree. Volckstedt was best known for its lace figurines that started to be manufactured in the mid-nineteenth century.

This lively couple is testimony to the sculptor’s artistry in giving the illusion of movement not only by the choice of leg positioning but more noticeably by the the depiction of the the male figure’s coat and the female figure’s shawl that seem to stir under a light breeze.

This piece is signed “Renard”. It’s mark indicates that it was manufactured between 1915 and 1934
