Ainu Collection 6-Drawer Cabinet of Lacquer Carved Wood and Steel by Soshiro, 2020

The symbiosis between the Ainu people and nature is timeless – a tradition that is celebrated with SoShiro’s eponymous Ainu collection. This collection collaborated with the Kaizawa sculptural workshop where they have designed and carved a contemporary Ainu motif representing the eyes of the Blakiston Fish Owl, a symbol of protection for the Ainu people.

The All Aid, intended as storage for remedies and medicine, is a versatile piece of furniture with drawers of three different depths with concealed ultra-smooth drawer mechanisms, completely rounded edges and (optional) removable, wipeable inserts for easy use and maintenance. Each of the drawers has a coloured magnetic and switchable drawer handle to colour-code drawers for a friendly ‘quick find’ and modular user experience. The wooden handle from the All Aid series is hand-carved in solid oak by the Ainu artisans. The cabinet is made with eco-friendly HDF and stainless steel, with a grey and red lacquer finish. The All Aid has LED lighting to illuminate the cabinet drawers – this is powered by a plug socket.
