French Trumeau Mirror, Early 20th Century

An impressive French Trumeau Mirror, the overhanging gadrooned edge cornice in gilt over a tablet with central mask flanked by acanthus and floral motifs above a mirror plate and another tablet with gilt acanthus decoration, the borders with similar gilt motifs. The entire frame is painted in a burnt orange wash that allows the undercoat of white to show through, adding to its antique appearance. There is a shrinkage crack in the upper tablet and chips and minor wear to the gilt throughout, only adding to its aged look. A stunning statement above a console, mantel or in an entryway.
