The hallmarks of this piece are reproduced in “Enciclopedia de plata Española y Virreinal Americana” pag 200 number 1056, serving as a hallmark reference for the publication.
Silver cup made in silver, that has been decorated with two inverted “S” shaped handles with peaks to the outside. At the base of the piece are the four hallmarks (flanking the line of contrast), which place the realization of the piece in Salamanca (note the bull), with the intervention of Juan Ignacio Montero; two others are presented, frustrated.
Juan Ignacio Montero was a silversmith and contrast-marker, and the hallmark seen here appears also in preserved works that have been dated between 1759 and 1779, as a sacra in the Parish Church of San Lorenzo in Segovia (by Manuel Cardeñosa, dated in 1767). It is known that he held the position of contrast marker in Salamanca between 1758 and 1781 and that he was active until 1779. He used a hallmark that incorporated the dates relative to the year, although sometimes the same iron was used in several years.
