The IRONWOOD coffee table features a phosphatized sheet steel top over legs in black waxed beech.
The BIG IRONY products have intentionally not been painted because the irregular surface gives the material a fascinating appeal of wood that seem to have existed since forever and improved with age. This is the characteristic which makes them so special. Stains are normal with time, these will form a patina which renders the surface even more beautiful. When delivered, the BIG IRONY surface has undergone a final treatment with beeswax. Clean it first with a dry rag in order to remove traces of oxidation and wax. To clean BIG IRONY phosphatized surfaces, use a non-aggressive and soft detergent, as if it would be wood. Twice a year it’s recommended to impregnate the surface with beeswax, removing it after one night as described before.
If patina on the phosphatized surface isn’t desirable, the rack can instead come in the epoxy painted version. The Black Copper color finish is the most similar to the original phosphatized sheet steel, since it’s manually treated to recreate the irregularity of the BIG IRONY surface. Other alternative colors are embossed white, rust, gunmetal (in the zinc-plated version also for outdoor) or any of the standard ZEUS colors.
