Contemporary Design
Soft Oak Chair is an exercise in contrasts. A delicate, wooden frame appears to support a massive wooden seat, backrest, and wings. However, the seat isn’t what it seems. Instead of using solid blocks of wood, Heykoop cleverly applied a mosaic of wood to the foam cushions of the seat and backrest. The resulting piece, then, keeps a little secret. The piece originally debuted at Dutch Intervertuals in Milan, a 2009 exhibition showcasing the work of former Design Academy Eindhoven students.
